The September Reset: Using Essential Oils to Support Mind, Mood & Routine

The September Reset: Using Essential Oils to Support Mind, Mood & Routine

Ease into autumn with grounding rituals and supportive scent

There’s something about September that feels like a fresh start - even more than January, I think. After the long, sun-soaked days of summer, the pace begins to shift. The light changes, the air cools, and we’re gently invited back into rhythm.

Whether you're returning to school runs, refocusing on work, or simply craving more structure after a free-flowing summer, essential oils can be a powerful way to support your body, mind, and mood through the seasonal transition.

Here’s how I use natural scent as part of my own September reset - and how you can, too.

Morning Rituals to Set the Tone

Mornings in September can feel sluggish - darker skies, a cooler edge. I like to start the day with something bright, clean and energising.

Try adding a few drops of Stolen Focus to your diffuser as you get ready in the morning. The oils in this blend help lift the mood, sharpen the mind, and bring a little sunlight indoors.

If you’re easing back into work or study, Stolen Focus or Revive are a couple of my favourites for supporting focus and mental clarity.

Try this:

Turn your diffuser on or spritz an aromatherapy mist while journaling, stretching, or having your first cup of tea.

Daytime Balance & Focus

As we get back to busy schedules, it’s easy to feel mentally scattered or emotionally stretched. A simple scent ritual can really help anchor you during the day.

Keep a rollerball or aromatherapy mist nearby - something grounding, floral and centring. My Clarity or Balance blends are perfect for this. Swipe across your wrists, take a few deep breaths, and come back to yourself.

Essential oils like geranium, lavender and mandarin are ideal for calming nerves while keeping your energy steady.

Tip:

Set a phone reminder for a 3-minute scent & stretch break mid-morning and mid-afternoon - just breathe and reset.

Wind-Down Rituals for Deeper Rest

After the rush of summer and re-entry into routine, our nervous systems often need more support than we realise. I love creating a wind-down ritual that cues my body it’s time to rest.

I use the Hygge blend most evenings - either in a diffuser, spritzed onto my pillow, or in a warm bath. It’s grounding, floral and gently sweet, with notes of lavender, geranium, red mandarin and ylang ylang - all perfect for unwinding after a long day.

Oils for Sleep & Relaxation:

  1. Lavender - deeply calming and helps ease you into sleep

  2. Ylang ylang - lowers stress and quiets the mind

  3. Mandarin - sweet, gentle, and emotionally soothing

  4. Geranium - balances and calms both mood and skin

Evening Ritual:

Run a warm bath with a few drops of Hygge oil in a carrier (like almond or coconut), light a candle, and let yourself fully soften.

The Season to Ground & Nourish

September is the season of returning - to ourselves, our homes, our routines. It doesn’t have to feel jarring or overwhelming. With the right scents and rituals, it can be nourishing and supportive.

If you’re not sure where to start, I’d be happy to help you choose the right blend for where you're at. Whether you need calm, clarity or a little emotional uplift, I’ve handcrafted each product with that in mind.
