How to Fix Your Balm If It Hardens in Cold Weather
Share
Ever opened your lip balm on a chilly morning and found it a little firmer than usual? Don’t worry, it hasn’t gone off!
Natural balms are sensitive to temperature changes, especially those made with pure plant butters and oils (like mine at Holistic Kitchen).
Why It Happens
My balms don’t contain synthetic stabilisers or fillers, which means they can respond to the temperature around them. When it’s cold, natural ingredients like shea butter and coconut oil can harden slightly, it’s completely normal and a sign of a high-quality, natural formula.
How to Soften It
If your balm feels a little too solid to scoop out easily, here are two gentle ways to bring it back to its silky best:
-
Warm it between your hands:
Simply hold the closed jar in your hands for a minute or two. The warmth from your skin will soften the balm, making it easier to use. -
Place near gentle heat:
Set the jar somewhere warm, near (but not on) a radiator or a sunny windowsill for a few minutes. Avoid direct heat sources like boiling water or microwaves, as these can melt the balm too much and change its texture.
Once softened, your balm will glide on beautifully again, just as it should!
A Little Extra Tip
To keep your balm at its best, store it somewhere at room temperature, away from direct sunlight or freezing conditions.
If you're looking for beautifully made, long lasting lip balm, look no further than my range. Choose from Avocado and Tangerine Lip Balm or Ice Ice Baby Lip Balm.
